Portugese Linens:

Faience Design Portugese linens
FAIENCE

Our exquisite decorative faience collection is inspired by Portuguese traditional ceramics of the XVII and XVIII centuries. The detailed designs are spontaneous and elaborate. Special attention is given to the decoration of each piece. The fine miniature patterns represent colorful floral scenes in which fowl and fawns are featured along with other various details of centennial life of the period. These faience pieces are a popular favorite with discriminating buyers. The pieces are recreated and adapted to our demanding lifestyle using traditional methods. Each item is a potter's own artistic creation, expressed with a passion for excellence and signed by the artist. Dishwasher and microwave safe. FDA approved.

THE PROCESS

Our beautiful and functional pieces have a common beginning: three kinds of local clay is mixed to perfection, using traditional methods that have been passed on to each generation with pride.

After the clay has been mixed, it is poured into molds and let to dry. Later, pieces are hand painted by local artists with several glazes. The glazes will mature and their vibrant colors change during the firing process. Some of the pieces are etched and signed by the artist before they are fired. Each item is hand-painted and created as a unique piece of art, ensuring that no two are ever exactly alike, each possessing its own individual character. The final process is firing, which is done on shelves in electric kilns.

All of our products are lead and cadmium free and microwave, oven and dishwasher safe.
