EMA GODFREY: ARTIST
Born and raised in New York, I have lived in North Carolina since 1984. I always dreamed of becoming an artist when young and at age sixteen I studied drawing at Silvermine Guild of the Arts in New Canaan, Connecticut. At age twenty I continued my studies at North Carolina State University School of Design, focusing on drawing, painting and three dimensional works. After graduating I worked in the field of graphic arts while in my spare time pursueing my dream of becoming an artist. Since then I have explored many mediums and subjects in sculpture and painting on my own. Since 1997 I have exhibited and sold sculptures and paintings across the Southeast and in galleries nationwide as well as in Europe, receiving several awards. My husband, Timothy Shepard, who is also an artist, and I, frequently collaborate on garden sculptures of children and creatures made from scrap metal. I currently live in Wake Forest, NC and have a space in The Cotton Company shared with my sister Nicola Godfrey.
